Guidelines during music class

WELCOME and thank you for joining “KidsMuzic In French” program!

Goals for the children:

♫  To experience activities that will prepare them for the later
development of:
-        accurate rhythmic skills
-        accurate singing skills
-        sensitivity to the expressive qualities in music

Suggested guidelines for parents:

♫  Parents must participate in all activities.

♫  The classes are for parents to learn the activities as well as the children’s enjoyment.

♫  Children often are unresponsive in class and participate more freely at home between classes.
This is normal. Parents should learn the activities during the class time so they can share them
during more receptive times at home.

♫  Children may roam during class as long as they do not interfere with other children’s attention.

♫  Occasionally invite a roaming child back to the group but do not force the child to participate.

♫  Please try not to talk to other adults during classes. Focus on your child.

♫  Do not compare one child’s accomplishments with another’s. Children develop at different rates.
Later development is sometimes better!

Things to remember:

♫  Repetition is the key!

♫  Children enjoy the songs and activities that are familiar to them.

♫  Children need the anticipation of a song, instrument or activity.

♫  Each song or rhyme must be repeated at least four times during a class.

♫  Each song or rhyme must be presented during eight classes over the session.

♫ Allow the child to develop naturally through child initiated beat activities.
Do not assist a child in feeling a beat motion by holding onto him/her and moving him/her with the
beat.
